I'm so happy that there is a movie out there that almost perfectly displays the scene so well. I watched it with a girl that is not into this kind of music, or lifestyle, and she was confused many a time. I had to explain a lot to her. I don't think she would know what to do if her son showed up at her door with dreads and a skirt on... I would understand though. by the way, i love the site. there should be more movies like this. lots of love to the cast and crew! good job!

okay...2 more things...there's a comment down lower about the song 'i don't mind failing in this world'. if you watch the music part of the credits it says who wrote it. i had it on one of my 'songs to learn lists! ha. and to 'jerry garcia': man...don't be all biased. i must say live footage of true music is awesome. festival expressed was amazing to watch...i can't imagine what it must have been like to be on that train. jerry my man, you rock my socks off, for sure. keep the peace.

sorry let me explain what i ment to say, i ment to say, "b4 i had kids, and quit doin drugs, i used to use my hands to put acid in my mouth..." lol that musta sounded wierd. i used to do like 2-10 hits of acid, usually gel, sumtimes paper, almost everyday... instead of seein stuff like devon, id just lay there and kinna wig out. as i said b4 a total veggie, except in my head i was like talkin n my head and thinkin a mile a minute and shaking... is this normal? lol. i always wondered if i wasnt allergic to it or sumthin and wished i knew why i didnt quit... but then again i was self destructive b4 i became a mommy.

i bought this movie cuz it was only 5 bux for the dvd at walmart, and it had devon sawa in it whos a good actor, plus it sounded kinna interesting, its a great movie, not my favorite but pretty awesome. im glad i bought it. i gotta ask like others b4 me have, where do u get the lyrics, guitar tabs, or music to "i dont mind failing in this world" ? ive looked everywhere online for it! to no avail! its very frustrating, hook a grrl up! email it to sanespunk@gmail.com i would appreciate it! i also wrote to the people that made this site askin for info, if they answer me i will post the answer in here! btw...someone said u arent sposed to touch acid with ur hands cuz the absorbtion thru the skin... whats wrong with that? until i had kids i always put it in my mouth using my hands and never had a problem... i did acid for 10 yrs that way... so what am i missing here? i never saw things, like devon did, but i was told as a kid that acid doesnt do that anymore cuz it isnt pure as it was in the 60's so i guess that is why. my acid trips were strong and not as great as i see everywhere. id just end up layin or sittin sumwhere trippin balls and unable to move or talk or interact... i was like a friggin veggie... not sure why i did it almost daily for so many years! i even used to sell it, and was addicted to doin it yet never was happy from it... blah. sorry to ramble. fill me in guys!

I love this movie soooo much, i love shows they are my life and the people music and enviroment is wonderful some people may get into the drugs like devon sawa's character but thats not what the shows are about its the music which they shoulda showed more of but still i liked it and the soundtract The Dead, Bob, Phish, and Cheese all on one cd someone was in my head when they where thinking of the music for this movie! Theres 2 sides to this movie guys, everyone is either viewing it as the actors were hotties or it was horrible....but the movie is not based on a bunch of drug users the whole time theres a story about life, love and courage...I've been on tours, and I've been in love, and I've been to rehab...I've been through the twelves steps probably up and down 20 times (those in aa or na know what im talkin about)....the movies, minus poor acting and fake mullet by Devon.....is a great story...it shows the ideal struggle numerous people have been through not since then but to this day....the movie was a low budget film guys, what can you expect, and they did have real people from tours there...it was well made scene in the background....im just covering peoples topics that i've read on here...the visine bottle of acid....he didnt drop the whole thing he put a couple of drops in, and lsd is made in very infrequent quanitys, 1 hit could be great for a acid fried person, or could send someone nuts....the quanity varies, no matter what you do with it since its allready so dilluted its hard to tell...i dunno, i've lived up just about my 9 lives, but this is a great view of struggles in more areas than just drugs, with life in general, home, love, lust, partys, not knowing the difference between addiction and non-addiction....its a good story, im pretty sure nobody can get that in depth and not have any flaws, especially on there low budget of like 1 mill, i forgot what the dvd said...

Someone has been spying on me! this movie is my life. If I had to make a movie of my life it would be exactly this. Even my parents are like the parents in the movie. I want to know who inspired this film... it is truly me. I also have to compliment on one of the times he does acid, and he's thinking and it shows that eye and the patterns, and the hand over the package and everything... it immitates perfectly the kind of thoughts you have while high on acid..perfectly. 2 things I have to say though, 1. they held the acid in the movie all the time by their hands, which you are not supposed to do in any circumstance because of absorbtion through skin. 2. He downs what looks like a visine container of acid. If you did that much acid people, you would be permanently insanely insane. 1 drop = a dose. Not a vial of the shit. Anyways, the movie was great, very Well done. A unique movie indeed.

Have the makers of this film ever even been to a show? This movie was an insult to one's intelligence, and it is sure to offend anyone who identifies with any or all of the groups portrayed in the film. Clearly, this movie is a sterilized Evangelical Christian movie, portraying the "evils" of homosexuality, Jews, hippies, drug use, divorce, adultery, etc. While it doesn't specifically state that the solution to all of these problems and more is faith in Jesus Christ, it might as well. The movie looks as if those parts have been removed and reserved for the version that undoubtedly is played in youth ministries across the country. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it was funded by the department of faith-based initiatives! However, I have to admit that this film was wildly entertaining, bringing me to tears of laughter on many occassions. (Be sure to watch for the confused wookie checking things out during the first "lot scene".) Watch this movie with a group of friends who know what shows are really like and you'll all be laughing hysterically at the incessent stupidity and obvious flaws that persist throughout this "film". The DVD version is a must in order to get the commentary and other bonus features, and to freeze frame some of the crowd scenes. Many of our criticisms were actually validated by the film makers. Think the crowds look a little sparse?...a little dirty? Think the directors might need more film school? You'll find out all about it. (Why on earth they would admit to some of the things they do?) Then you can watch as the actors suffer through painful interviews about their pathetic characters. No one has the courtesy to ask, "Are you sorry you made this film?"

This movie does not do justice to the way that life really is on tour.. all this movie does is portray people on tour as pot smoking, LSD using drug addicts.. I am not a drug addict and I have been on tour for months at a time. the music, is good, but why are they at an outdoor festival dancing to bob marley? I dont know.. they could have done this movie alot better. They should have had at least a few actually hippies in the film rather a bunch of preppy looking people in mass produced tye dye. I think that they should have had other people play the main characters because I dont think that Tara Reid or Devon Sawa did this film justice.. I was actually kinda offended by this movie.. "Around The Fire", is one of the best roles Devon Sawa has ever played. I love how genuine he is in his movies. With most actors, you can get a sense that " it's just a movie", but with him I always seem to get caught up and feel as though his experiences are real.

Fuck Yes!!!!! I LOVE Around the Fire, I saw the showing in Seattle and met the director. What a duffuse! I'm making around the Phire Too, it's gonna be way better and realistic. Dude dies from a heroin overdose in a honeybucket at the last show of winter tour. Sad but true. Dude, If you eat a whole vile of acid you straight up don't come down ever, your completely fucked. So how did hippy dude down a vile and can still talk straight. What was the point of the original? Was it,"Go on tour, but sell t-shirts, not acid!" Well Gotta go. Wow...i was first exposed to this film over the summer and i fell completely in love with it...i've rented it dozens of times, and a few days ago finally ordered the movie and sound track! i saw this movie about a year ago, and i have since bought it. it's really tight and tells a good story and portrays a stage that all adolescents go through.. the hippie and drug culture. the only complaint i have is how a "teen heart throb" played the part of simon.. though he did a good job, it may have drawn people to the movie for the wrong reasons, but hopefully they got past that once they saw it. oh yeah, at the shows on tour, the "band" was never revealed or shown, i was always curious ;)

Hello. I was an extra in the film. Set in the scenes filmed in Novato, ca. It was a wonderfully magical trip back the rock concerts of my youth. This movie was possibly one of the worst I have ever seen. It was a complete and total insult to the Grateful Dead community and goes against everything it stands for. The whole thing was so fucking fake and hollywood it made me sick. It was also advertised in Relix magazine and other hippie publications as a "stoner movie" of sorts when in fact it was just the opposite. The movie really sent a mixed message about drugs and the whole scene in general. A CERTIFIABLE PIECE OF CRAP THAT I AM TRULY OFFENDED BY!!!!

I felt very connected to this movie. It definitely captured the reality of touring. The scenes at the shows were almost right on except there might have been a little too much tye die. Other than that, the movie was great and very powerful.

I thank you so very much for making this movie. About a year and a half ago, I was into whatever I could get my hands on. I just didn't care I guess. I saw the movie with a few friends, and it occured to me,"What in the hell are you doin' girl? You aren't doing any good for yourself." I told my parents about the problem, they were clueless about what I was talking about, and was enrolled into a Rehab center. I just saw the movie again tonight and forgot all about thanking you guys. Thanks so much for changing my life for the better. Love always, ~Grateful~
