Around The Fire

When the producers hired BC SMITH (Miramax films' "SMOKE SIGNALS") to write the musical score for AROUND THE FIRE, they put to him a challenge. In addition to creating "normal" film score elements, Smith would also be responsible for creating from scratch a "mythological band" that the characters in the movie are following around. Smith put out a call to some very special people who came on board and contributed to this project. The result was one of the most furious and rockin' bands ever created. If you were to go around the country and assemble a dream band consisting of the most talented musicians of our day, you would be hard-pressed to find a better group than the one BC Smith assembled for this production. The guitar work in the score was performed by the extremely talented and internationally-known artist BILL FRISELL (see filmmakers note). The other members of the band are listed below:

Bassist: Brad Houser is formerly of Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians and is currently in the infamous underground band Critter's Buggin'.

Saxophone, Hammond B3 Organ: Skerik is a highly sought after studio musician who currently jams with Critter's Buggin' and Tuatara.

Drums: Ben Smith from The Love Mongers and Heart.

Percussion: Will Dowd. Studio drummer extraordinaire from the local Seattle scene.

Tablas: Tor Dietrichson who studies and plays with Zakir Hussein, and has also been invited on several occasions to jam with Mickey Hart of The Grateful Dead.
